2014 NAPCA Convention - Bonita Springs, Florida

[ Register for 2014 NAPCA Convention - Bonita Springs, Florida ]

The 2014 NAPCA Convention will be held at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Resort & Spa, Bonita Springs, Florida, April 23-26, 2014. This marks the esteemed 50th Anniversary of NAPCA and we expect a large turnout.  Only NAPCA Members in all categories, their guests, retired NAPCA members, and individuals invited by NAPCA are authorized to participate in the convention.

Please [click here] to view and print the complete convention package.  We encourage you to register and reserve your rooms at the hotel at your earliest convenience by clicking the following [website hotel reservation link]. OUR ROOM BLOCK EXPIRES ON MARCH 24, 2014, but last year we ran out of rooms before our deadline so you should act now to ensure you are able to get a room.  Only one month after opening registration almost 75% of our room block has already been reserved by delegates and we have had to request additional rooms for certain days that have sold out in their entirety.  You may take a visual tour of the resort, its amenities, and area attractions by clicking on the following link: [www.coconutpoint.hyatt.com]. If you choose not to make your hotel reservation on-line, you may call the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Reservation Line at (239) 444-1234 and make your reservation by phone. Remember to tell them you are with NAPCA.  We have arranged a favorable guaranteed rate for single or double occupancy of $199.00 per night, which is considerably below the customary rates at the Hyatt for April of this year.

Delegates also must register separately with NAPCA for the convention. To do so, please click on the registration link at the top of this page. One or more delegates and spouses/companions may register at the same time and charge all registrations to the same credit card, should you choose. If you prefer not to register for the convention on-line, please print the convention registration form included in the complete convention package, complete same and return it with the appropriate fees to the NAPCA office.  You may telefax the form first and then mail the original with your check. Our telefax number is (713) 276-6206.  We would prefer it if you could make your convention registration by April 1, 2014 so we can determine the number of attendees for our planning purposes.  The deadline for refunds of any convention registration fees is April 16, 2014.

If you have any problems reserving your hotel room on-line, feel free to call the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point Reservation Line at (239) 444-1234. If you have any problems registering on-line for the convention, please call the NAPCA office (713) 276-5206.

We look forward to an outstanding turnout for the 2014 Convention and having you join us to celebrate NAPCA’s 50th Anniversary.

2013 NAPCA Convention Recap

The 2013 NAPCA Convention was held at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa, Indian Wells, California, April 24-28, 2013. NAPCA was rewarded with its highest convention attendance since 2008 and the highest attendance at its business sessions in recent years.  This year’s business program presented many timely issues critical to the plant pipe coating industry and those of its service and materials suppliers.  The presentations were delivered by three of the most dynamic speakers that have ever presented at a NAPCA convention, each of which supplied much pertinent information.  The first speaker on Thursday, April 25 was Richard Hoffman, the Executive Director of the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) Foundation in Washington, D.C., who provided critical information on the “Outlook for Pipeline Construction” and addressed the current state of the interstate natural gas pipeline industry, current and anticipated construction, and regulation and current or anticipated developments that will either aid or hinder future pipeline opportunities.  He was followed by Timothy Simon, who until January 1, 2013, was the Commissioner of the California Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco, California.  Mr. Simon addressed the “Opportunities and Challenges of Pipeline Infrastructure Enhancement in the Age of Shale Gas,” and touched upon several pipeline disasters that might lead to additional pipeline infrastructure enhancements in the near term.  On Friday, April 26, we concluded our General Session with an enlightening and entertaining presentation from Dr. Donald McNeeley, President and Chief Operating Officer of Chicago Tube & Iron in Romeoville, Illinois.  He provided an extended discussion of the United States economy and political landscape entitled “Manufacturing – We Who Hung The Moon,” which addressed, among other things, what it will take for America to regain the mantle of the manufacturer to the world.

There also were several break-out sessions addressing Coal Tar Coating, Liquids Coating, Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating, and the Coating of Water and Sewer Pipe.  In addition, the line pipe manufacturers met in a closed meeting to discuss current trends, regulatory developments, and how they may work more closely with pipe coaters and other NAPCA members to benefit the entire industry.

In addition to the customary convention activities, at the Final Banquet on Saturday, April 27, the NAPCA crowd was treated to the enshrinement of two very deserving individuals into the NAPCA Hall of Fame - George Stoddard, former owner and President of Mobile Pipe Wrappers and Coaters of Adelanto, California, and Rick Schok, current owner and former President of Flowline Alaska of Fairbanks, Alaska.  This is the first time in NAPCA's history that two individuals have been enshrined in the same year.  The NAPCA Hall of Fame award goes to individuals in the plant pipe coating industry who have contributed greatly over the course of their career and have demonstrated leadership in the industry and with NAPCA.  Individuals are nominated by NAPCA members, screened by the NAPCA Screening Committee, and then voted on by the NAPCA Board of Trustees, the NAPCA Managing Director, and all past recipients of the award.  Jim Harvey of Mobile Pipe Lining and Coating introduced Mr. Stoddard, while Mr. Schok was introduced by Merritt B. Chastain, Jr., former Managing Director and General Counsel of NAPCA.
