Convention/ Workshop Information
2012 NAPCA Convention
The 2012 NAPCA Convention will be held at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa, Tucson, Arizona on April 18-22, 2012. We have organized a collection of outstanding speakers for the business program who are sure to provide much insight into current events in our industry and the economy. In addition to the business program, the enhanced networking opportunities, and the forum to catch up with old friends and meet new ones, there also will be time to relax by the pool, play golf, and engage in other recreational activities. Those eligible to attend the convention include all NAPCA members (which includes all employees and officers of NAPCA member companies) and guests invited by NAPCA. Therefore, if you are not presently a NAPCA member and desire to attend the convention we encourage you to view the member requirements and complete a membership application, which can be accessed via the Membership Information page on the NAPCA website. The registration site will open in early February 2012, and we also will send out registration packets to all member contacts at such time. The 2011 NAPCA Convention was held at the Marriott Harbor Beach Resort & Spa, Fort Lauderdale, Florida on April 6-10, 2011. It was a tremendous success and was defined by the high caliber of the speakers at the business program, the wonderful location, and the networking that took place. The General Session presentations were made by (1) Dr. Donald McNeeley, President and Chief Operating Officer of Chicago Tube & Iron in Romeoville, Illinois; (2) Guy G. Buckley, Group Vice President, Corporate Strategy & Development of Spectra Energy Corporation in Houston, Texas; (3) Paul Vivian and Rick Preckel, Co-Owners of Preston Publishing Co. in St. Louis, Missouri; and (4) Bradley A. Brewster, CPLP, a Senior Consultant for Moody International in Houston, Texas. There also were several break-out sessions addressing Coal Tar Coating, Liquids Coating, Fusion Bonded Epoxy Coating, and the Coating of Water and Sewer Pipe. In addition, the line pipe manufacturers met to discuss current trends, regulatory developments, and the future composition and structure of their meetings to better serve their needs. [2011 Convention Program] At the convention Eldridge Indest, President of Bayou Perma-Pipe Canada, Ltd., was appointed by the NAPCA President to the NAPCA Board to complete the term of Gary Brown who recently retired. Moreover, at their meeting on April 9, the NAPCA Regular Members elected Richard Schok, President of Flowline Alaska, as a new Board member for a two-year term. Mr. Schok replaces Don Barder, President and COO of The Liberty Group. NAPCA thanks the outgoing trustees for their support and efforts during their respective terms. At the Board meeting that took place on April 9, Brendan Ryan, Vice President/General Manager – North America for ShawCor Pipe Protection, L.L.C., was elected to the post of President of NAPCA. Other officers elected include Joel Chermak of Midwest Pipe Coating, Inc., who was elected to the position of Vice President, and Hank Reuser of Perma-Pipe, Inc., who was elected to the position of Secretary/Treasurer. Additionally, Jeff Fargerson of 3M Corrosion Protection Products completed his first term as the NAPCA Associate Member Chairman. The 2010 NAPCA Convention was held at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa, Indian Wells, California, April 7-11 of this year. It was a tremendous success and was defined by the high caliber of the speakers at the business program, the wonderful location, and the networking that took place. Scott At their meeting on April 10, the NAPCA Regular Members elected three new members to the Board of Trustees. The new members are as follows: Hank Reuser of Perma-Pipe, Inc., Joel Chermack of Midwest Pipe Coating, Inc., and Ron Carlson, Jr. of Commercial Resins. These three replaced the following outgoing Board members: Richard F. Brunst, Jr., President of Western Pipe Coaters and Engineers, Inc., George Stoddard, President of Mobile Pipe Wrappers & Coaters, Inc., and Ryan Norris, Inside Sales for Dura-Bond Coating, Inc. NAPCA thanks the outgoing trustees for their support and efforts during their respective terms. At the Board meeting that took place on April 10, Merry Brumbaugh, Vice President of Tubular Products for L.B. Foster Company, was re-elected to the post of President of NAPCA. Other officers elected include Brendan Ryan, Vice President and General Manager, North America for Bredero Shaw, who was re-elected to the position of Vice President, and Gary Brown, President of Commerical Coating Services International, Ltd., who was elected to the position of Secretary/Treasurer. The Summer 2011 NAPCA Workshop was held at the Hilton Houston Post Oak Hotel, Houston, Texas, August 18, 2011. It boasted a great program and featured many excellent speakers. Rex Mars and Brett Voght of Project Consulting Services in Houston, Texas kicked off the Workshop by addressing “Traceability Management on the Denbury Green Pipeline.” Thereafter, Joel N. Tietjens, a safety management consultant for T-JENS & T-JENS, Inc. in Spring, Texas illuminated the attendees on “Effectively Managing Your Health and Safety Processes,” with an eye toward improving safety as a means of increasing a company’s bottom line. Dolty Cheramie of Pipe Exchange, Inc. in Houston, Texas engaged in a through, retrospective evaluation of the oil and gas industry when he presented “A Look at the Oil Patch - 2010-2011.” Steve Nanney of PHMSA, U.S. Department of Transportation in Houston, Texas, also spoke on timely issues related to “The PHMSA Perspective: Current Issues, Problems, and Developments.” Finally, H. Sterling Burnett, Ph.D., a Senior Fellow for the National Center for Policy Analysis in Dallas, Texas, provided an interesting and eagerly anticipated address concerning “The Future of Oil and Gas Exploration in the United States” and touched on global warming issues that could have a significant impact on business in the not-to-distant future. The Summer 2010 NAPCA Workshop was held at the Hilton Houston Post Oak Hotel, Houston, Texas, August 19, 2010. It had a great program and featured many excellent speakers.
